Transferring Your Utilities
Setting up your home in Leisure World is uniquely streamlined. Here is what you need to know.
In many traditional neighborhoods, you have to contact the city for water, a private company for trash, and the gas company for heating. In Leisure World, water and trash collection are managed by the community. Additionally, each unit is all electric. No gas is available. This eliminates several phone calls from your moving checklist.
Accounts You Need to Transfer
1. Electricity
You will need to contact Southern California Edison (SCE) to transfer the electricity into your name effective on your closing date. Because the unit's smoke alarms are hardwired, the seller is never allowed to fully disconnect the power. You are simply requesting a "transfer of service" rather than a new connection.
Southern California Edison (SCE):

You are responsible for setting up your own telecommunications services. Leisure World is primarily serviced by Spectrum and Frontier. We recommend calling them at least a week before closing to schedule your installation or equipment delivery, as appointment windows can fill up quickly.
Spectrum (Internet & Cable):

Frontier Communications (Fiber Internet):

We recommend scheduling your utility transfers roughly one week prior to your estimated closing date.
When you call the utility providers, simply give them your anticipated closing date as the "start of service" date. This ensures everything is running smoothly in your name the moment you are handed the keys.
